Basic Drive

Omni Wheel The most common VEX drive is based on the principle of an omni (omnidirectional) wheel, pictured right. These wheels function similarly to a regular wheel, however their design allows for them to “slide” sideways with very little friction. This is due to the small rollers that can rotate perpendicular to the wheels axis of rotation.

These drives are steered by applying a different speeds to the opposite sides of the base. For example: driving the left wheels at 100% speed and the right wheels at 50% speed would result in a slow turn to the right. These drives can also rotate on a point, if one side of the base drives in the opposite direction to the other. This makes it highly versatile, and it is a viable design choice in most annual games.
